Forget Traditional Tile Roofing – Use Metal Tiles Instead!

Posted on Tile Roofing in Salem, OR

Metal roofing tiles give your building the classic look of tile with the longevity of galvanized steel. SteelROCK roofs can last 30+ years in Salem.

Tile roofs are beautiful, there’s no doubt about that. They tend to be more popular in the Southern United States due to their natural insect resistance and distinctive look and feel, but as a company that has been serving as roofers in Salem, OR for almost 25 years, we have seen our fair share of tile roofs here in the Willamette Valley as well. When our customers want tile roofs on their homes or business, we encourage other options. Though tile roofs are good and come with a host of benefits, we have found an option we find to be even more effective and efficient: SteelROCK metal roofing tiles.

This summer, we were trained and certified by SteelROCK to install their advanced roofing systems. We recently completed a very large commercial metal tile roof using their products and have been blown away with the system’s effectiveness and ingenuity. With that said, we urge anyone considering tile roofing in Salem, Oregon to at least research SteelROCK products and weigh them in on their decision.

Here are some of the advantages of roofing with SteelROCK products:

  • Metal roofing tiles are much lighter weight than true stone tile. Having heavy roofing materials can mean that your home will struggle to support the weight of a full tile roof. You may have to beef up your existing structure to support the weight, which can be expensive, or you may find your roof sagging and leading to failing structural integrity.
  • Roofing tiles are fragile and crack when walked on. This means you will often need to hire a roofing contractor to take care of even the simplest of roofing maintenance tasks to avoid the risk of damaging your roofing material. Metal tiles are durable. They are made of galvanized steel. Enough said.
  • Tile lasts a long time, but the underlayment does not. The underlayment lasts generally no more than 20 years, which is on par with other roofing material lifespans. SteelROCK roofing products have a limited lifetime warranty.
  • Tile is very expensive, even compared to other premium roofing products like metal tiles. We truly believe metal roofing tiles are a less expensive and more effective roofing solution than tile.
